Female Boxer's Fight Canceled After She Was Injured Getting Her Hair Done

The boxing match between Amanda Serrano and Nina Meinke was canceled Saturday night, just minutes before it was supposed to happen.

Serrano suffered an eye injury Friday and was deemed medically unfit to compete in the scheduled main event by the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission.

Crying under her sunglasses, Serrano explained that the injury occurred when she was getting her hair dyed earlier in the week. A chemical from the hair dye went into the boxer's eye during a run on Friday — damaging her cornea.

Serrano later posted a heartfelt apology on X.

"This to all my beautiful Fans, My Island, My fellow fighters who have been sending me well wishes With a Torn Broken Heart I want to say I’m So Sorry," she wrote. "Everyone who knows me knows I’m a warrior & I would never agree to cancel a fight. I would have fought without an eye or arm.

"To my opponent [Nina Meinke] you’re an amazing respectful fighter. I thank you and promise you we will fight & you will get your title opportunity. You deserve it all."

The event was supposed to be Serrano's homecoming — her first time fighting on her home island since becoming undisputed featherweight champion.

Jake Paul Expresses Support For Amanda Serrano

MVP co-founder Jake Paul said it would have been too risky for her to compete. Paul himself took home a knockout win Saturday night over Ryan Bourland.

"Last night was bittersweet. Got the W. It felt amazing to fight in Puerto Rico. But my focus is on Amanda Serrano," Paul posted on X. "Amanda was beyond heartbroken but still had the courage to come into the ring and speak to the sold out crowd in attendance that was there for her.

"That’s what a leader does. That’s what a champion does. Riding with you to the end Amanda. You are the real deal."

MVP announced that everyone who paid for tickets would get a full refund and that Meinke would be paid her full purse.
