Alabama's Mohamed Wague Suspended One Game For Cheap Shot On Gators' Alex Condon

No cheap shot goes unpunished. Ask Alabama's Mohamed Wague, the Crimson Tide forward who threw two dirty hits at Florida center Alex Condon Wednesday night.

The Southeastern Conference suspended Wague on Thursday, following Alabama's 98-93 overtime win against the Gators. The junior will miss Saturday's game against 17th-ranked Kentucky. This season, Wague has averaged 4.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

In the first half, Wague struck Condon on the play, but officials called a Gators foul instead. Audiences on X (formerly Twitter) called out the blatant hit on Condon and the officials for missing a clear hit.

The conference's announcement stated, "After video review in the conference office, it was determined that Wague committed the fighting act of striking Florida's Alex Condon in the back of the head with his elbow/forearm with 9:25 remaining to play in the first half of Wednesday's game. …

"NCAA rules require a suspension for the next regular-season game when a player commits an act of fighting defined as ‘a confrontation involving one or more players, coaches or other team personnel wherein (but not limited to) a fist, hand, arm, foot, knee or leg is used to combatively strike the other individual.’"

Wague also snuck in a knee before elbowing Condon in the head and neck area. It was another poor lack of sportsmanship from the Crimson Tide. Alabama coach Nate Oats shoved a Mizzou player in January and faced plenty of backlash last season for ‘mishandling’ the Brandon Miller situation. Miller was suspected of bringing a gun to the crime scene where Jamea Jonea Harris, a single mother, was fatally shot.

Alabama improved its SEC conference record to 11-2 with the win.
