Aaron Rodgers Insists He Would Never Pull A Philip Rivers And Un-Retire
We'll believe it when we see it...
Reactions are still rolling in after news broke this week that the Indianapolis Colts have signed formerly-retired 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers, and now, the man who had previously been the eldest signal caller in the league, Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers, has offered his take.
He also revealed if he would ever go for the ol' presto-changeo unretirement move after he finally hangs it up for good.
Ahead of the Steelers' game against the Miami Dolphins on Monday, Rodgers was asked about the Rivers situation.
"Well, I’m not the oldest guy in the league; love that," Rodgers joked. "It's pretty incredible though, because he's been out (of the NFL) for, I believe, four full seasons plus part of this season."
And that's most of this season, so I think you could even go ahead and call it five seasons since Rivers last took a snap.
"I was laughing because a couple buddies hit me up asking what I would do in the situation, and I said, without missing a beat, ‘I’m retired. I’m staying retired.’"
Now, I found that last bit very interesting.
We've seen Rodgers waffle a little bit on whether or not to retire in the past, and we've also seen quarterbacks come out of retirement before. Teddy Bridgewater did it earlier this year, while Tom Brady famously returned after about a month and a half of retirement.
So, if I had to pick a candidate to pull this, I think I would've put Rodgers at the top of my list.
However, the man himself is saying that when he calls it quits, he is done for good.
Well, I'm sure a little ayahuasca and sitting-in-the-dark sesh could maybe make him reconsider.
But before he has to start thinking about retirement (again), Rodgers has a job to do with the Steelers currently leading the disappointing AFC North.
