Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets Will Open Monday Night Football Again This Year Against 49ers

Let's try it again.

The NFL has announced that the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers will open the upcoming season as the Week 1 Monday Night Football game on September 9th.

RODGERS SUFFERED A SEASON ENDING TORN ACHILLES INJURY

That groaning sound you just heard was every Jets fan having a PTSD flashback to last year's MNF season opener when they hosted the Buffalo Bills. That game, of course, was the heavily hyped, franchise-changing debut of Aaron Rodgers which came to a disastrous halt after the star quarterback tore his Achilles during the first drive of the game.

Rodgers' injury was obviously not part of the plan. In fact, you may recall how much buzz the NFL and media were building around Rodgers and his new life in New York City. Rodgers, you'll recall, ran out of the tunnel by himself waving the American flag for the September 11th game.

However, just four plays later, Rodgers would roll out of the pocket as he faced pressure from the Bills defense and get dragged down with his ankle nearly snapping in half.

It was not ideal. In just a few seconds, Jets fans, who finally had the quarterback that was supposed to bring them their first Super Bowl since Joe Namath's guarantee at Super Bowl III, had him taken away. The Jets would end up going 7-10 and finish 3rd in the AFC East while playing a number of quarterbacks including Zach Wilson.

JETS - 49ERS WILL AIR WEEK 1 OF MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Rodgers' upcoming return will have a different reception this year compared to last year - after all, that was before Rodgers had been going on Pat McAfee's Show and getting into feuds with Jimmy Kimmel over Jeffrey Epstein of all people, as well as his vaccine takes and more. Needless to say, not everyone was pleased, and you can be sure the haters will be critiquing every single thing he does on September 9th.

The 40-year-old Rodgers missed all of last season and returned to the practice field this past December as he worked his way back into playing shape. Meanwhile, Jets coach Robert Saleh will return to his former 49ers team where he was the defensive coordinator for four years prior to being hired by the Jets.

For a Jet fan though? I'm just hoping I don't have this reaction again.
