The Second Batch Of 2024 F1 Liveries Are Here, So Let's Rank Them

With Red Bull's car reveal on Thursday, we have now gotten a taste of what every team will look like on the 2024 Formula 1 Grid.

A couple of weeks ago, we ranked the first five teams to show off their freshest looks — Haas, Williams, Stake F1, Alpine, and McLaren — and there were some definite trends.

First and foremost, there was more black than A Spinal Tap album cover. There's a practical reason for that, but people wondered if we would be without any pops of color.

I'm pleased to report that at least a few teams in the second batch to unveil their liveries — Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Visa Cash App RB (ew, that name) — are, for the most part, a little more colorful.

So, let's dig in, shall we?

Let's get things started with…

5. Mercedes

Just like the first batch, this has been such a solid year for liveries that it's a shame someone has to go to the bottom of the list.

In the second batch, I unfortunately have to hand that distinction to Mercedes.

The final year of the team's Lewis Hamilton era sees a mashup of the two prevailing color schemes Mercedes has used over the years: Silver and black.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like my Silver Arrows in silver. So, I'm glad they put a little silver on the nose which hankers back to 2013-2019. They switched to a black livery in 2020 and you can see that on the back of the car.

It's not a bad look, but I would've loved a more traditional silver.

The funny thing is, Mercedes became known for silver after they stripped the paint off of a car to save weight, leaving nothing but the exposed silver metal. Now, when teams need to save weight, they do the same thing, but now the cars are made of black carbon fiber.

There's a good chance that's why the Silver Arrows are opting for black, and they certainly aren't the only ones.

I'm giving this look 6 Toto Wolff fists smashing on his desk out of 10.

4. Red Bull

Red Bull tends to take the "if it ain't broke don't fix it approach to their liveries." There have been some minor tweaks since the team's inception nearly 20 years ago, but at least in the Max Verstappen era, their liveries have stayed the same.

So no surprise that it features what appears to be the exact same livery as last year.

While I think Red Bull's livery is great, I was kind of hoping for something a little special — maybe a throwback livery — for their 20th season in Formula 1.

Who knows? Maybe we'll get a throwback as a one-off later this season.

I give Red Bull's "new" livery 7 cans of Red Bull out of 10.

3. Aston Martin

Aside from a certain shade of red that we'll talk about in a bit, I don't know that there's a more iconic color in motorsports than British Racing Green.

In Formula 1, that shade of green belongs to Aston Martin, and as we all expected it was the basis for their 2024 livery… which some claim is different than the 2023 livery but I can't for the life of me figure out how.

In fairness, there's not much reason to change it. It's a great look with an instantly recognizable color. I really like how the yellow pops and I even think that this is one of those rare occasions where a sponsor's logo — in this case the Aramco logo on the rearing — really adds to the look.

It's a good look, but now the question is will it be running up front like it was at the start of last season, or will it be mired in the midfield like it was late in the year?

Let's give Aston Martin 7.5 Union Jacks out of 10.

2. Visa Cash App RB

There's no denying that Visa Cash App RB is one of the worst names in the history of Formula 1.

Look, we all know that sponsorship is part of how F1 works, and lots of teams have title sponsors. However, no team has ever daisy-chained sponsorship together like the team I will henceforth refer to as RB.

So, I was shocked when the team unveiled its first car — the VCARB-01 — and it didn't just look good, it looked great.

If that looks familiar it's because it's essentially the same livery that the team used in 2019 when it was known as Toro Rosso, but with a few changes.

It's also fully painted, making it one of the few cars that can stake that claim.

Of course, the second the team needs to find a few tenths and don't know what else to do, you better believe it's getting scraped right off.

Still, it's a fantastic look for now, and I'm giving it 8.5 title sponsors out of 10.

1. Ferrari

The most iconic team in the sport kind of has their hands tied when it comes to their livery. It has to be that famous shade of Rosso Corsa red. However, from there, they can get a little creative. Over the last few years, the team has gone with black-heavy looks, but not in 2024.

This year Ferrari's new car — the SF-24 — is going fully into white and yellow. There's some exposed carbon fiber on top of the sidepod, but other than that, it's a whole lot of that fantastic Ferrari red.

That livery is based loosely on the one that graced Ferrari's hypercar that won at Le Mans last season.

It's a great look, and frankly, I think it's the best on the grid this season.

They'll need more than a snazzy livery to meet those sky expectations the team faces each season, but at least if they have some trouble, they'll look good doing it.

Ferrari gets a strong 9.5 Italian hands emojis out of 10 for this absolute gem.
