Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews has finally addressed the COVID-crazed hubbub surrounding her late December hug with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And like the majority of sane people who side with science over masks, Andrews is over it, calling the post-hug uproar “so stupid.”
During a recent episode of her podcast with fellow sportscaster Charissa Thompson, Calm Down with Erin and Charissa, Andrews spoke about her embrace with Green Bay’s quarterback.
“I pretty much have hugged Rodgers since I started covering the NFL,” said Andrews. “He’s been a good friend of mine for the last 15 years. It was so funny because the people close to me in my life like my family or other quarterbacks I know or other players are like ‘Why is this a big deal?’
The big deal, which actually wasn’t a big deal to anyone other than those who wear masks while driving and who own a Dr. Fauci bobblehead, stems from an umasked on-field hug between ARod and Andrews following the Packers’ Christmas Day win over Cleveland.
“Maybe because Aaron is a lightning rod. So stupid. Slow news day,” said Andrews.

“And I know that there’s the other argument where we’re doing the interview six feet apart, because of the COVID protocol,” Andrews said during her podcast. “It is what it is. I understand that. I’ll do whatever the NFL needs me to do.”
Andrews is under the impression that the unnecessary backlash she’s received since hugging Rodgers might not just be from the coronabros. According to her, some of it also comes from people attacking her because she’s a female reporter.
“They’re going after it because I’m a female,” added Andrews. “Now, maybe I have it wrong and they’re just going after it because Aaron is a lightning rod right now but I will say this, no one has said anything when Greg Olsen and [George] Kittle tackled and hugged each other (prior to a Titans-49ers game).”
Whatever their problem is, Andrews would be wise to leave it be. Because if COVID’s taught us anything, it’s that you can’t fix stupid.
