SNF Recap: Baltimore’s Defense Steps Up As Lamar Struggles, Defeating the Browns 16-10

Videos by OutKick

Week 12’s Sunday Night Football matchup pitted AFC North rivals against each other to see if the Browns are truly legitimate in Kevin Stefanski’s sophomore season against the apex of the AFC North in Baltimore.

A collection of interceptions later and a solid effort from the defensive unit, the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Cleveland Browns, 16 -10.

Both quarterbacks struggled on the night, but Lamar Jackson’s four INTs became a point for critics of the dual-threat QB to prod throughout the game.

Lamar Jackson completed 20 of 32 passes, throwing for 165 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

Mayfield struggled for the newly 6-6 Cleveland Browns: completing only 18 of his 37 pass attempts. Baker threw for 247 yards and one touchdown.

Still, even with the turnovers, Jackson still gave his team a shot to win using incredible speed to both march down the field and evade a pursuing juggernaut in Myles Garrett.

However, the Ravens needed someone else to win the game, so the defensive unit showed up to keep the Browns from taking a lead. Baltimore fans witnessed an archetypal Ravens defensive performance: getting pressure on Mayfield and punishing the QB anytime he stuck in the pocket a second longer.

“It has been a physical game,” commentator Mike Tirico in the fourth.

For the Browns, defense was also their strong suit on the night, gathering the picks off Jackson and doing so at the perfect time.

The Cleveland defense caught three of the four interceptions in the second quarter. After the Ravens created momentum with a touchdown pass to Mark Andrews in the third, safety John Johnson II caught an acrobatic pick.

The standout defensive player for the Ravens was Tyus Bowser, who earned a sack, three QB hits and the game-sealing tackle on David Njoku.

Cleveland lost the game and also lost offensive lineman Jack Conklin to a serious knee injury.

According to OutKick’s ProFootballDoc, “Browns veteran right tackle Jack Conklin suffered a right knee injury in the first quarter of the Sunday night football game and his season could potentially be over.”

Baltimore remains the top seed in the AFC North (8-3), and Cleveland stays at the bottom. The Ravens face off against the Steelers in Week 13 and the Browns head to their bye week.

  1. Stefansky has been told by the ownership to keep playing Baker. The Browns will have to make a QB decision after this season. My guess, Baker will be franchised if a better replacement is not found. The Browns dropped the ball by wasting an entire year with Freddie Kitchens.
