American champion Sha’Carri Richardson has been disqualified from the Olympic 100-meter race after testing positive for a chemical found in marijuana, she revealed Friday on The Today Show.
Richardson won the 100 at the Olympic trials on June 19 with a time of 10.86 seconds. Her ban is for 30 days, meaning she can’t return until July 27. The Tokyo Olympics start on July 23.
Richardson, 21, admitted to smoking marijuana on The Today Show, saying it helped her cope with the recent death of her grandmother. She tweeted, “I am human,” perhaps in response to the over-the-top media coverage and the usual backlash on social media.
“I was definitely triggered and blinded by emotions, blinded by badness, and hurting, and hiding hurt,” she said on Today. “I know I can’t hide myself, so in some type of way, I was trying to hide my pain.”
Richardson participated in a counseling program, which helped reduce what could have been a three-month suspension to one month.
What seems particularly unfair to Richardson in all this is the fact that women athletes like cannot smoke marijuana — something that is not a performance-enhancing drug and even legal in some states — and run in the Olympics. But men can identify as women, take estrogen and beat them in a race.

Shapiro had a good point. they are banning her for a drug that has little to 0.0 performance benefit but allow a man to take estrogen to compete as a woman.

Give me a break with this sob story excuse. You smoked it because you’re addicted to it and have no self control. If you’re an Olympic athlete, abstaining from dope for two months should be the easiest part of your preparation.
i have not ever had anyone convince me that Pro sports is not rigged.. I have held this stance for almost 3 decades. During this time, I always thought the Olympics was “clean.” After the doping Debacle that was Sochi Olympics and stunts like this, I am starting to see the “rigging” pattern – it’s not the plays they review, it’s the plays they DON’T review that tilt the game – since we will never see Richardson run, She’s a “play that will never be reviewed.”
If pro sports was seriously rigged, why the hell would the NFL pick the Ravens to win two superbowls one with Trent Dilfer leading one of worse offense ever over a surging NYG team – and Joe Flacco leading the other over Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady?
The IOC is just another crappy institution that’s gone woke like the rest of them. The gal should have stayed away from the weed but what ya gonna do. This years Olympic competition will likely have pretty lousy ratings. The American spirit would have been on full display had 45 been POTUS. That said, Xiden and the commies that run in his crowd won’t even acknowledge them. All those asswipes are as anti American as they come.

Better for pain management and way easier on the body than opioids. Should be legal. In 20 years when I’m wracked with arthritis from all the garbage and injuries I put my body through in my teens and 20s, I’m gonna be Smokey the Bear.
But, she knows the rules. Someone who is either too stupid or too weak to take ownership of what they put in their body when their livelihood is dependent upon being clean? I can’t defend that kind of stupidity – even if I think they did nothing wrong.
Exactly, the suspension really should be for stupidity…sure hope they don’t reverse the decision.
