Bill Cosby Apologist Phylicia Rashad Deletes Tweet After Backlash
While the news upset Americans who followed the despicable allegations directed at Cosby during his trial in 2018, Rashad took to Twitter to call the news a "correction of justice," as fans lashed out at the actress for defending Cosby.
Rashad's tweet, which has since been deleted, said the following: “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted — a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”
Convicted on three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault in 2018 after the drugging and assaulting of Andrea Constand in 2004, Cosby served only two years as part of his 3-10 years of sentenced jail time. Reports explained that Cosby's release on Wednesday was based on a technicality.
As criticism poured in for Rashad throughout the day, she issued an apology regarding her tweet without a real retraction of her support for Cosby.
The outrage spawned by the tweet caused Howard University — Rashad's alma mater and where she currently serves as dean of Howard U's College of Fine Arts — to release a statement clarifying that it does not fully endorse the opinions of personnel.
Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad were co-stars on The Cosby Show from 1984 to 1992.
