Pennsylvania Governor Allows for 15% Fan Capacity at Outdoor Events

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced today that, beginning this Friday, the state will allow fans in outdoor venues, up to 15 percent capacity and capped at 7,500.

This is a timely development, with an intrastate showdown between the Steelers and the Eagles taking place in Philadelphia this Sunday. According to Jamie Apody of WPVI, the onus now rests with the city of Philadelphia to determine whether the Eagles can host a crowd of this size.

This table outlines new state regulations regarding indoor and outdoor event capacity:

Penn State has also issued a statement, claiming that these changes allow players’ families to attend games, but not fans:

“We are aware the Governor has updated his guidance on large gatherings related to sporting events. This updated directive on stadium capacity will most directly allow families of our football student-athletes and essential staff involved in the game day operation to be present this fall. We are pleased to be able to accommodate those closest to our football program and enable them to cheer on their family members. The Big Ten’s guidelines of families only will not permit us to welcome additional fans to Beaver Stadium in 2020.”

Fans are slowly but surely returning to sporting events. Sound off in the comments: Do you intend to attend a college football or NFL game this season?

  2. You gotta love this shit (he said sarcastically).
How does Wolf come up with 15% (he said rhetorically)?
I’m sure his PhD from MIT was immensely important in calculating the correct percentage.

  3. Why 10% not 11% of capacity? Where is the science? Did he consult with Biden, Nancy, Cuomo and Gavin? What a stupid clown you elected in PA!!! If Biden wins he will be 100% capacity within a week. OK, that may be aggressive ….. 10 days.
