Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey To Miss At Least Three More Weeks

The Carolina Panthers placed running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve Saturday, giving him three more weeks to get healthy from his recent hamstring injury.

Panthers.com's Darin Gantt reports the decision was made after the team's medical staff met Saturday to discuss the best course of action to get the star running back fully healthy — this week counts toward that total and he will be eligible to return as soon as Week 9 against the New England Patriots.

McCaffrey suffered the initial injury on Sept. 23 in Houston and had practiced on a limited basis into this week, but was held out Thursday and Friday — he was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Just after the injury, it was hoped he would get back to the field soon as he wasn't immediately placed on IR but with his absence, the Panthers promoted running back Spencer Brown from the practice squad (standard elevations) for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Gantt reports rookie guard Deonte Brown was also placed on injured reserve after leaving Friday's practice with a knee issue. Carolina signed guard Michael Jordan from the practice squad, but the absences still leave the team with a 52-man active roster.
