The Carolina Panthers announced Monday that running back Christian McCaffrey is out for the season after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s loss at Miami.
The team said an MRI Monday morning revealed an injury severe enough to place him on injured reserve.
“Because of the time it would take to recover, and because it will be his second time on injured reserve this season, the news means McCaffrey will miss out on the Panthers’ final five regular season games after the bye week,” the team said in a statement.
McCaffrey suffered a hamstring strain in Week 3 against the Houston Texans but was listed as week-to-week. He was placed on IR in Week 6 and made his return to practice earlier this month.
He appeared in just three games last season before suffering injuries to his ankle, shoulder and quadriceps.
The 25-year-old totaled 421 total yards and a touchdown on 68 touches the past four weeks after returning from the five-game absence. He finishes this season with 99 rushes for 442 yards and a touchdown and 37 receptions for 343 yards and a touchdown in seven games.
The Panthers (5-7) have a bye in Week 13 before facing the Atlanta Falcons (5-6) in Week 14.

Sad news…. Christian McCaffrey is a BAD man…..Get healthy for next year. My fantasy team needs you …lol
They all should read Walter Paytons book he always got up never missed a game played at 190lbs great great player these modern day dudes seem to be injured every other day
Agree. Today’s players are so big and strong but at what cost? Their bodies clearly cant support that forever. But they have to do it to keep up with these linebackers who are 250 lbs and run a 4.5
Curse of Cam continues…first he gets benched for being terrible (he is), now their best player out for the season. Just like he pulled Belichik’s Pats into their only bad season in decades. Feel bad for Run CMC.
Man, I’ve heard of guys with a ‘glass jaw’ but this dude is pure crystal.
I bet Carolina is cringing over that contract…again.
