Trans Weightlifter Fails To Advance After Missing All Three Lifts
Transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard was bounced from the women’s 87+ kilogram competition early after failing miserably on all three attempts.
Hubbard was the only one of the 13 participants unable to accomplish at least one lift.
On the first try, Hubbard quit after failing to get 120kg all the way up. The second attempt looked a little better, at least to Hubbard, whose fist pump made it seem as if there was some degree of success at 125k. The judges felt differently, ruling it a "no lift."
Finally, Hubbard again droppeds the ball at 125k, failing to execute a proper stance with the weight above the head.
“Thank you so very much for your interest in my humble sporting performance tonight,” Hubbard said to the media. “I know from a sporting perspective I did not live up to the standards I put upon myself.”
“ been extraordinarily supportive and I think that they have reaffirmed the principles of the Olympics that sport is something that all people around the world can do, that it is inclusive and successful."
Hubbard, from New Zealand, took no questions from the media.
