Vikings Make Harrison Smith Second-Highest Paid Safety

Veteran safety Harrison Smith has agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings. News of the extension was first reported by NFL's Ian Rapoport. The extension will pay Harrison $74.83 million over the next five years.

Smith's deal makes him the second-highest paid safety in the league behind only Jamal Adams, who signed a four-year, $70 million contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason.

Drafted by the Vikings in 2012 with the No. 29 pick, Smith has been a consistent part of a Minnesota secondary that has seen its share of elite talent come and go. Also keeping up with corners like Xavier Rhodes and current teammate Patrick Peterson, Smith has pestered the NFL's best play callers, including reigning MVP and division rival Aaron Rodgers.

"He's the most frustrating guy I play against with his disguises," commented the Packers QB.

Smith, 32, has been to five Pro Bowls and earned a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2017 as part of the league-leading Minnesota Vikings defense.

A dependable tackler and nickel safety, Harrison has demonstrated remarkable durability on the field — playing a minimum of 13 games in the past seven seasons.
