Urban Meyer ‘Concerned’ After Jags’ Preseason Debut

Urban Meyer's NFL coaching debut looked like a lot of the Ohio State - Akron games we've seen over the years. Only this time, Meyer was coaching the Zips. Following a 23-13 preseason loss to the Browns that wasn't as close as the score indicates, Meyer said that "everything's concerning":

“Concerning? Yeah, everything’s concerning. It’s my job to be concerned.”

In his post-game press conference, Meyer was quick to address his often slow, unproductive offense: “I don’t like slow offenses. . . I don’t wanna be one of those slow, wallowing offenses. And we’ll get that fixed. . . We’ve just got to get it and go, go, go."

First overall pick Trevor Lawrence started at quarterback and had an up and down evening. He completed six of his nine passes for 71 yards before exiting prior to the third series: “Trevor I believe was six of nine. But we gave up two sacks I believe with the number one offense…If he’s holding the ball a little bit long, I kind of felt he did on one of them, but we’ll have (a better idea after watching film), but just disappointing offense."

Cleveland went up 13-0 before Jacksonville could muster any points. Once the Jags were finally able to get on the scoreboard, the field was littered with backups. The first unit's poor performance left rookie coach Meyer feeling uneasy.

Jacksonville has just over a month to fine tune their offense before the regular season kicks off September 19th versus Denver. This time around, Meyer won't have the luxury of opening with a MAC school.
