Urban Meyer and Jacksonville Jaguars 'Trying to Finalize' Deal
Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars are meeting with the mutual intention of finalizing a deal, Adam Schefter reports:
The reason for the hedged language in this report -- "trying to finalize" -- is that Meyer could be the one to change his mind. He has twice cited health issues in his decision to leave head coaching jobs. There could also be a push and pull about the type of power Meyer will have, as Jags owner Shad Khan has spoken recently about wanting more roster control. Nonetheless, my reading of this report is that they are first and goal inside the five-yard line.
The three football coaches who have won national titles in both college and the NFL are Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, and Pete Carroll. Could Meyer, presumably paired with can't-miss prospect Trevor Lawrence, join that illustrious group?
Update: Pete Thamel reports that Urban Meyer "is leaving his job as a Fox analyst to become the next coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars."
