Tua Shares the Best Advice He's Gotten From Dan Marino
When a legend speaks, you listen. That's exactly what Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said he's done when Dan Marino has come to him with advice.
Marino, who just turned 60, knows a thing or two about playing quarterback and being at the helm in Miami, which he did for 16 seasons. Marino's best advice? It's simple.
“Pick a guy and let it fly,” Tagovailoa said to Local10.com.
You heard it right there from a legend. Just find somebody and throw it. Marino made a Hall-of-Fame career out of it and hopes his advice will rub off on Tagovailoa. He did just that in Miami's 17-16 win over the Patriots on Sunday, going 16-of-27 for 202 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Not the best game for Tagovailoa, but he was able to manage the game and come out on top against a tough defense. Despite being removed from the game for over 20 years, Marino still sits in the meetings and give his take on what Tagovailoa needs to do better.
“Dan sits in our meetings and helps us with things that we don’t see, or we never thought of seeing,” Tagovailoa said. “I think it’s really good to hear from his perspective, someone who has played the position.”
Tagovailoa might not have a year two like Marino did in 1984, when he set the NFL passing yards record, but with a full season at the helm with more talented weapons, Tagovailoa should see lots of improvement.
Amid the Deshaun Watson trade rumors, he might need to be great in order to keep his job going into the following season.
