Trent Baalke Officially Named GM Of Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars 2021 makeover continued on Thursday as the team officially named former San Francisco 49ers GM Trent Baalke as the club's new GM.

Baalke had been serving in the position after the Jags fired Dave Caldwell back in November in the midst of a 1-15 campaign that earned the Jags the first overall pick in April's NFL draft.

“Trent Baalke has had success at virtually every level of football, notably so as a General Manager who shrewdly and quickly built an NFL conference championship organization and team,” Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement.

Baalke spent a couple successful seasons as the GM of the Niners from 2011 to 2016. With Baalke as general manager the Niners were 51-44-1.

During that time, the Niners won the NFC in 2012, but fell in the Super Bowl to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31.

“I would like to thank Shad Khan for the opportunity to continue with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the team’s General Manager,” Baalke said in a statement.

“I look forward to getting to work with Coach Meyer and giving Jaguars fans everywhere the winner they deserve. I am confident that our shared vision will lead our team to success in 2021 and beyond.”

Baalke will have to play nice with new high profile head coach Urban Meyer, who comes to the Jags after a couple successful college runs, including three national titles in the NCAA.
