Tim Tebow May Not Be A Jacksonville Jaguar For Very Long
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Tim Tebow may not want to get too comfortable in those black and teal threads.
Head coach Urban Meyer seemed to quiet expectations that Tebow would make his NFL comeback with the team in an interview with USA Today’s “Sports Seriously” posted Thursday.
Host Mackenzie Salmon mentioned Meyer’s previous comment that former QB Tebow was doing a “decent” job of learning his new tight end position.
Despite the critism, Meyer said he's been picking up the new position well and is a great teammate, OutKick's Sam Amico previously reported.
"We all know this is a new position for him. He’s a great teammate. In the locker room, I can see everybody getting along, we have good chemistry on our team. But he’s picked it up decently,” Meyer said earlier this month.
Tebow signed a one-year contract in May in hopes of rejoining the NFL, nine years after his last NFL game. The move reunited him with Meyer, under whom he won a Heisman Trophy at the University of Florida.
When asked what Tebow had to do to make the Jaguars’ 53-man roster, Meyer said that he’s one of 90 guys trying to earn a spot so their renewed bond may be short-lived.
"The last thing you just said is the tough part ― there’s 53,” Meyer said. “And that’s new to me. That’s the reality of the NFL. The reality is that a good percentage of your roster is going to get cut or transitioned out of here."
Earlier this month, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said there is a 50/50 chance Tebow makes the roster come fall.
