Three Picks Later, Drew Brees Likes What He Sees From Mac Jones...Seriously

Patriots fans may want to invest in whatever rose colored glasses Drew Brees has. Their quarterback, Mac Jones, tossed three picks against Brees' former Saints team on Sunday, yet the future Hall of Famer still spent Sunday evening praising the raw rookie.

“I was impressed with the way Mac Jones played today,” Brees said during NBC's Football Night in America.

Jones completed 30 of 51 passes with one touchdown and three interceptions in a 28-13 home loss to New Orleans that dropped the Patriots to 1-2 on the young season. Though Jones showed some inconsistency and was responsible for a handful of turnovers, Brees was encouraged with his performance.

“He stood in the pocket, he was poised. He looked in command and under control. You saw his eyes in the right place, throwing it to the right guy," said Brees. "Those guys just weren’t making plays for him."

Unfortunately for Jones, "the right guy" was often wearing a Saints uniform, and Brees expressed admiration for the Saints' defense as well.

“Give credit to the Saints' defense. They got after him with 4-man rush, with pressure, and guys just couldn’t get open down the field for him.”

Jones shares Brees' opinion about the New Orleans' defense, though he's not using that as an excuse.

"I think, obviously, they have a great defense, the Saints do. They did what they did. But it's more about us and me just executing our plays. I can do a better job of that," said Jones.

If Jones' shaky Sunday was good enough to impress Brees, he's in for a treat next weekend. Some old timer by the name of Tom Brady is headed to Foxborough, and he's been known to piece together an eye-catching drive or two.
