Texans Turned Down Huge Trade Package For Deshaun Watson
It's Sept. 13 and Deshaun Watson is still a quarterback for the Houston Texans.
Hence, just a quarterback and not the starting quarterback. That distinction belongs to Tyrod Taylor, who balled out to the tune of 331 total yards and two touchdowns in Houston's 37-21 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.
And yet, Watson sits inactive, away from his teammates as the team figures out what to do with him. It's been known since early in the offseason that Watson requested a trade from the Texans and then has been subject to over 20 sexual assault allegations.
Now FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported yesterday that the Texans declined a deal to acquire three first-round picks and three-third round picks for Watson before April's draft. Glazer also added that at least four teams had been interested at that time. It's unclear if any suitors remain today.
The report has left many questioning what in the world the Texans are doing. And rightfully so. You have a blue-chip QB in his prime who wants out and six draft picks (three premium ones) aren't enough? Especially for a guy with baggage on him that Houston should want zero part of.
It's perplexing to see the plan and approach that general manager Nick Caserio is taking, which is keeping Watson inactive throughout the season.
I mean, if the NFL isn't going to step in and discipline Watson, then shouldn't he play if he's able to? After all, Watson signed a 4-year, $156 million extension last Sept. which is being wasted every game that he does not suit up for Houston.
