Seahawks Send Russell Wilson, Chris Carson To Injured Reserve

The Seattle Seahawks have placed Russell Wilson and Chris Carson on injured reserve and are both out for at least three games.

Wilson injured his right middle finger Oct. 7 against the Los Angeles Rams and underwent surgery last Friday — by placing him on the IR, the earliest he could return is in Week 10 at the Green Bay Packers, ESPN reports.

The team said it is "highly anticipated" the quarterback will return to play later this season, and ESPN reports that Wilson is expected to be out four to eight weeks.

During the Week 5 game, Wilson returned for one series and even threw the ball before Geno Smith replaced him for the remainder of the game. Smith will make his first start at quarterback since 2017 on Sunday against the Steelers.

Carson, on the other hand, has been dealing with a neck issue that flared back up the week of the Rams game, ESPN reports.

Coach Pete Carroll had provided some optimism Monday, saying Carson made a "big turn" in the right direction over the weekend but said Friday that Carson felt he didn't make enough progress since then, which is why he didn't practice and was placed on IR.

"It's better for us to get him back and make sure that we don't rush it back, and so we're going to just take this time. It is a delicate thing," Carroll said. "He's got something going on in his neck, so we've got to make sure that we do it really well, so we're going to take care of him. This just seems like the right decision."

With Carson out, the Seahawks will likely again turn to Alex Collins to lead the way, with DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer providing depth.

After Pittsburgh in Week 6, the Seahawks host the Saints and Jaguars, then have their bye in Week 9.
