Saints WR Michael Thomas To Miss '12-16 Weeks' With Ankle Issue

Saints fans already know that they will have a very different team in 2021 with the retirement of future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees.

While the team figures out who will play quarterback, whoever does line up under center may not have the services of leading wide receiver Michael Thomas, or at least not for a while.

Reports say that Thomas will need anywhere from six weeks to two months for the ankle ligament to heal and then another 6-8 weeks to get back in shape before returning to the field.

For now, it looks like the Saints wide out corps will feature the likes of Tre'Quan Smith, Denote Harris, Marquez Callaway and Juwan Johnson.

There's always a chance that the team will continue to scour the waiver wires once teams make releases on their roster.

Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football states that there is a "possibility that Thomas could shorten the timeline but being on the field for the season opener against the Green Bay Packers seems unlikely."

Not having Thomas in the lineup is a huge blow to the Saints, a team that is in transition following the retirement of Brees.
