Report: Cowboys' La'el Collins Attempted To Bribe NFL Drug-Test Collector

Dallas Cowboys right tackle La'el Collins was suspended after trying to bribe the league's drug-test collector, ESPN reports.

Under the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, players cannot be suspended for positive marijuana tests but Collins' issue was multiple missed tests and trying to bribe the test collector.

OutKick previously reported that despite no positive test attributed to Collins, the right tackle was initially suspended for five games after failing to attend requisite drug testing. The NFL Players Association helped the tackle negotiate a reduction to what would have been a two-game ban.

ESPN reports Collins appealed the suspension, and the appeal was heard by an arbitrator appointed jointly by the league and the NFLPA. Collins' appeal was rejected by the arbitrator and the suspension was increased back to the original five games.

Collins' lawyer is attempting an appeal of the arbitrator's decision, but ESPN reports the suspension, which was announced Sept. 10, will not be reduced.

Collins is reported to have had had legitimate reasons for the missing seven drug tests, ESPN reports. One of was scheduled for the day that Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul died in November, and he missed another drug test the day of his uncle's funeral.

The right tackle will be out of action until after the Cowboys’ Week 6 matchup against the New England Patriots if his suspension is not reduced or overturned.

The former LSU offensive lineman signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and missed all of 2020 due to a hip injury.

Collins has started 62 of the 63 games he has played for the Cowboys since 2015 at left guard or right tackle. He missed 13 games in 2016 because of a toe injury and all of last season because of hip surgery.
