Rams Preparing For Both Dalton And Fields At QB For Bears

The Los Angeles Rams open the 2021 campaign Sunday evening at home as 7.5 point favorites against the Chicago Bears.

All offseason, the major storyline for the Bears has been 'who will start opening day at quarterback.'

Andy Dalton is the answer to that question, but rookie Justin Fields has pushed all training camp to get playing time, and Rams coach Sean McVay thinks the Rams may see both QBs Sunday night.

"I think it would be naïve for us not to prepare for them to be able to utilize him in some form or fashion," McVay said.

"But Andy is a winning quarterback in this league. (He) does a great job. I really have seen a lot of film of Andy, even going back to when Jay Gruden was his (offensive) coordinator at Cincinnati. So, very familiar with what a really good quarterback he is. He does a great job, accurate, anticipation, recognizes the looks defensively, can straighten up protections.

"Andy Dalton's a really good quarterback and he'll be a great challenge. And then you see the ways that Justin (Fields) made a lot of plays going back to his career at Ohio State (and) what he showed in the preseason. So, I think you got to be ready for either or, but it's going to be challenge, for sure."

Last season, Dalton played with the Cowboys, and in nine starts he went 4-5. He threw for 2,170 with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Dalton spent the first nine years of his NFL career with the Bengals, going 70-61-2 in his time there as a starter.
