Police Outside Vikings' Everson Griffen's Home After He Reported Intruder And Fired Weapon
Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is reportedly refusing to come out of his house after he told the Minnetrista Public Safety Department that he fired a weapon inside his home Wednesday morning.
Griffen, 33, posted troubling videos on Instagram holding a gun and acting as if an intruder was in his home. According to the police report obtained by ESPN, officers said they received a call from Griffen at 3 a.m. Griffen said someone was in his home and he needed help. Griffen told the 911 dispatcher that he fired his weapon, but nobody was injured.
Since approximately 7 a.m., police and psychologists have been in communication with Griffen. Griffen is refusing to come out of his residence. Police say they were unable to locate an intruder.
The Vikings released the following statement on the situation:
"Vikings representatives and the team's mental health professionals have been on-site at Everson Griffen's home since early this morning and are cooperating with law enforcement. Our only concern at this time is the safety and well-being of Everson and his family. We will have further comment at the appropriate time."
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer spoke to the media on Wednesday morning and said he did not know if Griffen was ok.
"I appreciate the questions, but I really can't get into any of this stuff right now with any of this," Zimmer said. "We're only concerned about his well-being. He's been with us for a long time. Good guy. Works hard."
Zimmer said that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman would address the media sometime on Wednesday. Minnesota running back Dalvin Cook, who Griffen said in the now deleted Instagram video that he helped him purchase the gun, showed concern for Griffen on Wednesday.
"That's my brother," Cook said. "I just want him to be okay."
