Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Likely Won't Attend Green Bay's Mandatory Minicamp

The latest episode in the Aaron Rodgers/Green Bay saga is unfolding. Reports on Monday afternoon indicate that Rodgers will not report to mandatory minicamp for the Packers. The standoff between the player and the organization remains entrenched, with the preseason roughly two months away.

Adam Schefter of ESPN pointed out Monday that the Packers will not likely see Rodgers at their minicamp on Tuesday, and that he'll likely face a $100,000 fine by the team and league.

If Rodgers changes his mind and decides to show up, he'll prevent other players from making an impact at camp in his absence. Jordan Love will get a lot of looks as long as Rodgers is sitting at home, enjoying life. The team needs to figure out how to get Love playing time with the future of Rodgers uncertain.

Rodgers is the reigning MVP, a 13-year starter and a sure-fire, first-ballot Hall of Fame, but right now with an uncertain future the team needs to get Love more time to throw. More opportunities in camp will also help get him ready for whenever he finally does take over the QB role.

There are a number of Packers pass catchers who are set to miss OTAs and training camp. Thus far in 2021, Packers receivers Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard and Equanimeous St. Brown have all stayed away, but all are eventually expected to be at camp at some point.

Reports on Monday state that Rodgers WON'T be at the team's mini-camp, so Love will likely get a chance to take over and be THE MAN under center for the Packers, at least for a time.

There's a ton of tension between the Pack and Rodgers, and Rodgers isn't worried in the least about the $100,000 fine that he could face by NOT showing up at the team's mini-camp.

Rodgers and his reps have not spoken much about his plans for 2021, but the Pack are still one of the best teams in the NFC, along with Tom Brady and the Bucs. So Green Bay needs the quarterback to return and be 100 percent.

While Jordan Love might be the answer at QB for the Pack long term, for now Rodgers remains THE guy. The team and A-Rod's reps have to get on the same page and figure out whether he will return to Green Bay or whether the team will move him to San Francisco or elsewhere in 2021.
