Officials Gift Washington Three Points At End of Half on Alex Smith Sneakiness

Alex Smith, who did not miss a series despite gushing blood from his leg, was sacked with 23 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Because Washington did not have any timeouts, Smith sneakily ran off the field with the ball:




When officials could not find the ball, they stopped the clock. It's quite possible that Washington would not have been able to get the kick off without Smith's shenanigans.

This sure looks like the officials gifted Washington three points, and it sets a pretty precarious precedent.
