Nick Sirianni: Eagles 'Furious' About 1-3 Start

The Philadelphia Eagles have self-destructed their way to a 1-3 beginning, and that doesn't sit well with new coach Nick Sirianni.

"We’re upset -- we’re furious that we’re 1-3,” Sirianni said after Sunday's 42-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. “The self-inflicted wounds have to stop. We keep putting ourselves in holes with penalties. We have to use this tape and get better from it.”

How bad has it been for the Eagles? Well, they lead the NFL with penalties, having compiled a whopping 44 in four games. To give some perspective, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are second at 34.

But the Buccaneers have Tom Brady. The Eagles are still figuring out things with Jalen Hurts. In short, it's a little easier to overcome errors when you have a legendary QB than it is when you have a player in his second season, like Hurts.

"We just have to find a way to clean it up,” safety Anthony Harris told reporters. “Get on the film and continue to come in with the right attitude. Each player and each coach has to figure out how to come together and be on the same page. Continuously find a way to execute and be able to get wins."

Hurts himself said that plenty of work remains.

“We’re clearly not there as a football team,” he said. “We’re not a finished product. No player on this team is a finished product. We’ve got to put it together.”

Either way, the Eagles expected to be better this season, not hurt themselves and fight for a playoff spot. Right now, they are tied with the New York Giants for last in the NFC East.

“My message is really never going to change, win or lose,” Sirianni said. “We’ve got to make our corrections and get better from it.”
