Mac Jones Showing Off Important Trait In Patriots Camp, Per Teammate
There are certain qualities a quarterback needs to have if he wants to be successful in the NFL. A franchise signal caller needs to have at least an adequate arm, show some sort of leadership ability and a whole lot more.
New England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers recently highlighted something rookie Mac Jones does extremely well, and it's also a crucial component to playing the QB position. Apparently, Jones is proving to be a fast learner, and he corrects his mistakes.
"He's a real fast learner," Meyers told reporters Tuesday, via NBC Sports Boston. "This isn't an easy offense to just jump into and pick up and play, especially dealing with Josh McDaniels, who expects the best out of you everyday.
"The fact that Mac can go in, get yelled at, bounce back and come back and do the right thing, and not make the same mistakes twice, that's something that's really good to be a Patriot and have."
That whole "not making the same mistake twice" thing is pretty important. Like, really important, especially for a young player such as Jones. Picking up on things quickly and being able to apply them consistently will give him a chance to earn the starting job sooner rather than later.
Of course, Cam Newton might have something to say about that. The two quarterbacks, who both played their college ball in the state of Alabama, are battling it out for the starting job, and from what we know, neither of them currently has a leg up on the other.
Jones is still making rookie mistakes, but if he's not making them twice, we have to think that rookie disadvantage will eventually dissipate.
