Mac Jones 'Embarrassed' By His Performance, Ready For Post Season

Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones left Miami Sunday afternoon with a blemish on his record and egg all over his face. A 33-24 loss at the hands of division rival Miami had the rookie signal caller feeling embarrassed and ready to turn the page.

"It's super embarrassing, honestly, just from my point, just how I played -- wasn't good enough," Jones said following the loss. "I can be better. It starts with me. I'm the quarterback and that's my job, is to make people around me have success."

Jones was hardly the only problem for a Patriots team that played as though they enjoyed the many pleasures of South Beach the night before. But the interception Jones threw in the first quarter proved as costly as any other New England mishap. With his team already trailing 7-0, Jones was on the wrong end of a Xavien Howard pick-six, which essentially put the game out of reach. Jones would finish the day 20 of 30 for 261 yards, one touchdown and the costly pick.

"I knew what coverage they were playing. I just didn't see the outside guy and I threw it too wide. It was my fault. It was Cover 2, there's nothing to it," Jones told media members after the loss. "It's simple, and I have to read it out and do a better job getting the ball to the right guy."

Fortunately, Jones and the Pats won't have to wait long for an opportunity to right their wrongs. New England faces Buffalo for a third time this season when they meet in the opening round of the postseason next Saturday.

"You have to watch the film and learn from it, and realize how embarrassing it is to play that way," said Jones. "But at the same time, we have a great opportunity next week and that's all you can ask for."

Odds makers think the embarrassment will stretch into next weekend. FanDuel Sportsbook lists the visiting Patriots as 4.5 point underdogs.
