Lack Of Cincinnati Nightlife Keeping COVID-19 Away From Bengals, At Least According To Joe Burrow
How does one avoid COVID-19, you ask? Well, it's pretty simple--just ask Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
"We've done a great job with our COVID protocols. Fortunately, there's not a ton to do in Cincinnati, so nobody's going out to clubs and bars and getting COVID every weekend," Burrow said Wednesday, via WCPO Cincinnati.
38 players alone were added to the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday. Hundreds have been added in the past two weeks. Amid the NFL's most severe outbreak, the Bengals have only one player in COVID protocols, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. That lends well for the Bengals (8-6) as they enter a crucial Week 16 home matchup against the Ravens (8-6) Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS.
A win over Baltimore would give Cincinnati first place in the AFC North and a season sweep over a division rival.
Interestingly enough, just to the north lies Cleveland, perennial winner of the "we have nothing to do in our city award." The Browns, however, have 22 players in COVID protocols. Their game had to be switched from Saturday night to Monday night and even then, quarterback Baker Mayfield, receiver Jarvis Landry and edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney still didn't make it off the list to play.
Nobody is going to confuse the city of Cleveland as the nightlife capital of the world, but then again, neither would anybody with Cincinnati. It could all just be luck, as Burrow put it.
"We're still a healthy team, which not a lot of people can say at this point of the season," Burrow said. "We've been lucky as far as injuries and COVID."
