Joe Burrow Said He Will Be Better In Year Two, Identifies Specific Areas Of Improvement

When the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Joe Burrow No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, they were looking for someone who could change the franchise. And despite suffering a season-ending knee injury 11 weeks into the season, the LSU product gave them that.

Was Burrow perfect? No, but that would have been impossible with all the deficiencies around him. He was steady, however, throwing for 2,688 yards, 13 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also added another 142 yards rushing and three scores on the ground.

Now, Burrow is expecting to be better in Year Two, even with that knee injury.

"I had some pretty tough games — Pittsburgh, Baltimore come to mind. Going into next year I need to be more consistent in those big games," Burrow said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, via All Bengals. "I think for the most part I played well. I was really efficient, but there’s still some things that obviously need to be corrected. I wasn’t great with the deep ball, which I was pretty disappointed in because I’ve always been pretty good at that. So that’s an emphasis for me going into this offseason is hitting those big plays and creating outside the offense and creating those big plays on my own.”

It's difficult to be an efficient and effective deep ball thrower when the offensive line isn't set up for success. The hope is that Cincinnati fixes a few of those issues during the offseason, allowing for more opportunities for Burrow and the passing game.

That also means that he'll need to take advantage of those added opportunities, which he admits.

The Bengals have the most important position on the field figured out. That isn't something all the other teams in the league can say, but now it's time to put the necessary pieces around the young signal-caller.
