Jets’ Bad Luck Extends With Zach Wilson Injury, 41-Point Loss To Patriots
The Jets lost more than just the game Sunday afternoon. They also lost starting quarterback Zach Wilson. A sprained PCL sustained in the second quarter of Sunday's 41-point loss to New England will sideline the rookie signal caller for two to four weeks. Wilson's injury is the latest bit of bad luck dealt to a Jets team that enters Week Eight with a 1-5 record.
Following Sunday's loss, Wilson expressed hope that the PCL is indeed the source of his knee injury:
"That would probably be the best-case scenario. Obviously the pain really isn’t there. It just kind of feels like something is off as far as being loose or unstable a little bit."
Wilson was injured on a legal hit from Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon, who tweeted his sympathies to Wilson on Sunday evening:
"You hate to see injuries, especially if you're a part of them. Praying for you."
A Monday morning MRI confirmed a minor PCL sprain. Before exiting, Wilson was 6 of 10 for 51 yards with no scores or picks. For the season, the 2nd overall pick in April's draft is completing 57.5% of his passes with four touchdowns and nine interceptions. He's yet to eclipse 300 yards passing in a game.
With the team trailing 17-0 at the time of the injury, Wilson was relieved by backup Mike White, who will likely pilot the Jets' offense for the next month. In his first career appearance, White finished 20 of 32 for 202 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
New York's already without top contributors C.J. Mosley and Mekhi Becton.
White and the wounded Jets will attempt to change their luck against a scorching-hot Bengals team next Sunday at New York's MetLife Stadium.
