Jets And Vikings Wheel And Deal

The Minnesota Vikings are looking to build an offense that will finally showcase a couple players, but one player who is going to have to sit back and watch for a while, possibly even the whole season, is up and coming tight end Irv Smith Jr.

Last season, the tight end had 30 catches for 365 yards and five scores. His father also played in the NFL from 1993 to 1999. Unfortunately though, Smith has now been sidelined for 2021 with a meniscus tear.

So since they can't play the big tight end they already have on their roster, the Vikings have decided to trade with the New York Jets for another one.

Minnesota has made a deal with the Jets for tight end Chris Herndon, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Minnesota officially announced the move via their team website on Wednesday.

The deal has the Vikings shipping a 2022 fourth-round pick to the Jets in exchange for Herndon and a 2022 sixth-round selection, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.

To facilitate the trade, the Jets paid Herndon a signing bonus of roughly $1.4 million while the Vikings will pay only the $920,000 minimum salary.
