Jerry Jones Is A BIG Fan Of Trevon Diggs
Dallas Cowboys defensive back Trevon Diggs played so well on Monday Night Football that he earned public praise from the big boss himself, owner Jerry Jones.
“ a receiver faking it as a D-back,” Jones said of Diggs, who has three picks in as many games this year. “He plays that ball and makes those special plays. And obviously, he’s not only got talent, but by the way, he’s worked to get in position to make those plays. He’s a difference-maker.”
No other defensive back in the league has an interception in each game this season. His pick on Monday came after jumping a perfectly-anticipated out route by receiver DeVonta Smith. Diggs, an Alabama product himself, stepped in front of Smith, a former Bama teammate, and intercepted the Jalen Hurts (Alabama, again) pass for a 59 yard pick-six. The 24-year-old Diggs also recorded multiple pass break-ups in his stellar performance.
“I’m here,” Diggs said, “Trying to .”
In the 41-21 win over the Eagles, Diggs became the first Cowboys player to record an interception in each of a season’s first three games since Everson Walls did so in 1984. Four of his past six interceptions have come against the Eagles dating back to his rookie campaign last year.
“Tre is a ballplayer, man,” said teammate Micah Parsons. “I told him, I’m starting my MVP, All-Pro corner for him already. He’s just helping this defense so much. He’s really making it easier for guys like me to get to the quarterback. I’m very happy for him.
“He brings that every day. I think he’s ready for the moment. He told me he’s going to be the best, so I don’t expect anything less from him.”
Diggs’ son, four-year-old Aaiden, was featured alongside Dad during the Cowboys’ preseason episodes of Hard Knocks. Diggs said his son tells him to intercept a pass before every game.
“I know really excited,” Diggs said. “He was at the game. He told me that he wanted me to get an interception, like, ‘I want to you to get an interception and a touchdown.’ So I said, ‘All right, I got you.’ I kept my promise.”
No doubt Jerry Jones feels the same.
