Jason Kelce Is Latest To Believe Wentz Will Rebound In Indy
Carson Wentz is trying to get his NFL career back on the right track. With a change of scenery, going from Philadelphia to Indianapolis, there's hope that the former No. 2 overall pick will be able to do just that.
Despite his many struggles in 2020, there are still those who believe in Wentz. His former center Jason Kelce is one of those believers. In fact, Kelce thinks that the North Dakota State product is going to come back strong in 2021.
During an appearance on 94 WIP Sports Radio on Thursday, the longtime Eagles offensive lineman made it known that the team's struggles this past season went beyond his former quarterback.
A 4-11-1 record is going to put a magnifying glass on your franchise, and the quarterback usually gets too much of the blame. He can also sometimes get too much of the credit when things go right. With the team struggling, Wentz was benched for rookie second-round pick Jalen Hurts.
Obviously, that's not how anyone wants to end their time with a team, but Kelce thinks a bounce back is coming -- especially now that Wentz has been reunited with his former offensive coordinator Frank Reich in Indianapolis.
“You learn a lot about guys when seasons start going down,” Kelce said, via the Indianapolis Star. “You learn a lot about guys in tough times. I still love Carson, I’ve got a lot of respect for him. Obviously, the way this thing ended not ideal, but I think he’s actually going to do pretty well in Indianapolis.”
From there, Kelce pointed to a couple of things to back up that statement: 1) Reich, which we already mentioned but 2) a good offensive line. It was nice to see the honesty from Kelce, considering he was a part of the poor protection with the Eagles.
Now Wentz has arguably the best offensive line in the league, especially once the newly signed Eric Fisher returns and can protect his new quarterback's blindside.
The makings of a bounce back are there. But Wentz has to get over the mental obstacles if he's going to get back to previous form. If he can, the Colts should be considered the favorites in the AFC South -- yes, even over the Tennessee Titans.
Reich is a believer, and now we know Kelce is too.
