Here's What Belichick Thought Of Cam Newton's Panthers Return

The Carolina Panthers drafted Cam Newton with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and the quarterback's career has come full circle.

After the New England Patriots announced that rookie Mac Jones would be the team's full-time signal-caller last August, the team released Newton.

The veteran quarterback made his second Panthers debut on Sunday, playing just nine snaps against the Arizona Cardinals.

After the Patriots' dominant 45-7 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Bill Belichick made an appearance on The Greg Hill Show Monday morning and was asked whether he's happy Newton is back in the NFL.

“Yeah, absolutely. It was great when they signed him," he said. "Sounds like he had a great day yesterday. Always happy for Cam. Appreciate everything he did. He was a wonderful guy to coach and be around.”

Newton seemed to make the most of those snaps on Sunday, as he rushed for a touchdown and scored through the air on another in Carolina's 34-10 upset of Arizona.

The 32-year-old QB entered the game as the backup to P.J. Walker but received seven touches. Carolina coach Matt Rhule said that the team expects starting QB Sam Darnold to miss at least four weeks following his shoulder injury and the team had planned to start Walker in Darnold’s place.

The Panthers next face the Washington Football Team on Sunday's Week 11 matchup with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. EST.
