Giants DE Admits Rampant Booing Is Bothering Team, Following Dismal 1-5 Start

Extending Giants defensive tackle Leonard Williams was one of the team's main priorities in the offseason. Signing a 3-year, $63 million deal, Williams was adamant to continue with a New York defense that had a standout campaign in 2020, despite the team's 6-10 record.

Starting the 2020-21 season, the Giants are now 1-5 and feeling the pressure from the fans. In Sunday's blowout loss against the Rams, boos could be heard echoing throughout the Meadowlands from start to finish.

When asked about the booing in a post-game interview, Williams was blunt in admitting he wasn't a fan. “I don’t think anyone deserves to be put down no matter who you are,” Williams said. “I’m not going to go to a salesman and tell him that he’s not a good person, or boo this person because he’s not doing a good job.”

The contest quickly got away from the G-Men — down 28-3 at the half. This time, no Brady-esque comeback was complete and the Giants lost big against LA, 38-11.

Under second-year coach Joe Judge, the Giants have gone 7-15 the past two season. In the past four years, and three coaching regimes, the Giants have a total record of 19-51. Their record since 2017 is worse than any team in the league — a style of play Williams assuredly did not sign up for.

The defensive tackle has been one of the few silver linings on the Giants, recording 11.5 sacks in his first full year with the team in 2020. While a plethora of injuries have handicapped this team against opponents like the Cowboys and Rams, the brain trust in New York seems to be the consistent thread in their recent slump.

With Sunday's booing in New York putting the Mara family on higher alert, it won't be a surprise to see Judge or general manager Dave Gettleman hit free agency by end of season.
