Fournette Not Worried About His Place On The Depth Chart…For Now

Jason Licht and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have built one of the league’s deepest rosters, with running backs that the offense can depend on.

The RB duo of Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette -- who have different yet equal abilities -- makes for a nice depth chart, but it also means the Bucs have to put one player ahead of the other.

The official roster lists Ronald Jones as the No. 1 back. Apparently, the coaching staff likes his dual-threat ability as a rusher and a receiver. In the meantime, Playoff Lenny isn’t too concerned about playing the No. 2 role at the moment.

“No, not at all,” said Fournette, according to the Heavy report. “We know what we bring to the table, what’s expected. Whatever happens, if any one of us ever has to carry (the load), we’re not going to miss a heartbeat. We’re all taught the same thing, we all have a great coach.”

Leonard Fournette had the better postseason performance for the Bucs last year, rushing for a total of 300 yards, compared to 157 from Jones. Fournette outshined Jones in receiving as well, catching for 147 yards and one touchdown and becoming the third player in postseason history to score a touchdown in four consecutive playoff games.

Fournette posted two 1,000+ rushing seasons in Jacksonville prior to his historic playoff run. Because he knows he has the potential and production to be the lead back, Fournette is staying hungry. The competition with Ronald Jones — who still flashes the occasional eye-opening stat line — keeps both players in peak form.

Giovani Bernard, another Tampa Bay RB, also still has plenty left in the tank and should compete for opportunities.

If Playoff Lenny and the Bucs can keep the big picture in mind, the trio RB combination could keep an aging Tom Brady chugging ahead to another championship. Backfields can make that much difference.
