Former Vols DE At The Center Of Scary Scene In Sunday Night Primetime Matchup

Seahawks defensive lineman Darrell Taylor, a former Tennessee Volunteers standout, was involved in a scary collision during the Sunday Night Football matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the immediate aftermath had members of both teams concerned.

Some of his teammates were in tears as he was carted off the field and placed into an ambulance, causing a lengthy but necessary delay in the game's fourth quarter.

Fortunately, post-game reports indicated that Taylor's CT scans from a Pittsburgh-area hospital checked out and he was cleared to fly home with his Seahawk teammates.

Taylor, 24, was injured with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh's overtime win. The second-year edge player slid down the right side of the defensive line in an effort to stop Steelers running back Najee Harris from picking up a first down. While wrapping up Harris, Taylor's helmet met the side of 330-pound teammate Al Woods, sending his head backwards and leaving him motionless on the field.

Medical staffers were quick to rush to Taylor's aid. For precautionary reasons, he was loaded onto a cart and both teams then circled around the injured defender.

Following the scary scene, Seattle head coach Pete Carroll indicated Taylor would be OK and actually wanted to leave the field under his own power:

“He was so mad to be taken off the field like that. He wanted to get up, they wouldn’t let him do it … Man, he didn’t want any part of that.”

Through the season's first six weeks, Taylor has 16 tackles and four sacks. Everyone at OutKick wishes him a speedy recovery.
