Former TSU Player Who Nearly Died In Game Offered Internship With Titans

A former college football player from the middle Tennessee area will join the Titans as a strength and conditioning intern this fall, but the story doesn’t end there.

Christion Abercrombie was playing for TSU in 2018. In a game against hometown rival Vanderbilt, he suffered a head injury that almost cost him his life. Luckily, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center was just steps from the stadium, because that’s where Abercrombie would receive two brain surgeries to attend to the head trauma.

The rehab process to even leave the hospital lasted seven grueling months. TSU Dean of Students Frank Stevenson acknowledged in a graduation speech that Abercrombie was “not supposed to live” after the brain damage he sustained.

Now 23 years old and healthy again despite the odds, Abercrombie has not only survived, but is beginning a career working behind the scenes in the game that almost killed him. No doubt he will bring a work ethic and dedication to the Titans’ organization that is reflective of his fighting spirit.

"I feel very happy and blessed to be graduating with my undergraduate degree from TSU," said Abercrombie. "I thank my parents, and everybody for their prayers and support."

The Titans open the 2021 season at home against the Cardinals on September 12 for a noon kickoff.
