Former Packers TE Coach To Take Over Broncos' Offense
The new Denver Broncos regime is building upon its foundation of Packers personnel.
After hiring Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as head coach, the Broncos decided to add Packers tight ends coach Justin Outten as their new offensive coordinator, announced by the team on Wednesday.
Outten's receiving corps saw a massive dropoff in production after star wideout Davante Adams — who amassed 1,553 receiving yards in 2021.
Green Bay's second-best receiver was Allen Lazard (543); their third-best was Marquez Valdes-Scantling (430); and their fourth-best receiver was a running back (Aaron Jones, 391).
At the nucleus of the team's offensive production was soon-to-be four-time MVP winner Aaron Rodgers, who helped the Packers reach the eighth-best total in the NFL for receiving yards (4,315).
According to Pro Football Rumors, "the Broncos’ first OC target was Packers offensive line coach Adam Stenavich, but the Packers installed him as their own OC."
Apparently, the team also wanted to add Packers wide receivers coach Jason Vrable, "but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur blocked the request," per the PFR report.
Though Denver's strategy this offseason has entirely relied on the blueprint of the NFC's top team in 2021 to spearhead a new regime for the Broncos, the team may be in store for a rude awakening when they realize that Aaron Rodgers isn't on the sideline to recreate Green Bay's success.
Or at least for now, as rumors circulate around a potential Rodgers-to-Denver move.
