Former Lions QB Stafford Speaks On Trade To Los Angeles: 'I Wanted To Shoot My Shot'

As a competitor in the National Football League, quarterback Matthew Stafford is ready to take his shot at the big time, making the move from Detroit to Los Angeles where in 2021 he'll play for the Rams and Coach Sean McVay.

Stafford has been quiet since the trade from Motown to Hollywood, but on Wednesday, he finally opened up about his thoughts on the trade and his new team.

"I've always wanted to play in those big games. I feel like I will excel in those situations," Stafford told Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press.

"I wanted to shoot my shot.”

Throughout the course of his career, Stafford has played in only three playoff games and lost all three.

Now with the NFL's number one defense, he'll have a golden opportunity for redemption. At 33 years old, Stafford has plenty of gas left in the tank (if you don't believe that, just watch what Tom Brady did Sunday against the Chiefs), and he's ready to show the rest of the country what he can do.

“I never thought I would ever finish my career anywhere else,” Stafford said.

Stafford played 12 seasons in Detroit, but was voted to just one Pro Bowl in that time back in the 2014 season.

Despite that, he's been regarded as a solid quarterback. He's thrown for over 4,000 yards eight times in his career.

Now he will have that chance in a higher profile market in Los Angeles, getting a chance to end his career with a team that hopefully isn't as cursed as the Lions have been since they dealt Bobby Layne to the Pittsburgh Steelers 63 years ago.
