For The First Time In 43 Years, No Giants GM Candidate Has Ties To Franchise

The New York Giants appear to be done with the first round of interviews for their GM vacancy, with nine candidates vying to be the next man in charge.

Per the New York Post, the Giants wrapped up Round One with San Francisco 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters and Niners director of player personnel Ran Carthon, the son of former Giants running back Maurice Carthon.

Believe it or not, Carthon's dad is about as far as it goes when it comes to candidates having any sort of direct bond with the franchise.

"None of the nine NFL front office executives have any direct ties to the Giants, who are going outside their organization to find a general manager for the first time in 43 years," noted Paul Schwartz of the Post.

New York football has been in a fairly sad state recently, leading to the retirement of former GM Dave Gettleman and the firing of coach Joe Judge after the season. So now they need a new front office, new men on the sideline and perhaps a whole lot of new players.

Whoever wins the GM race will be off to a good start, at least. The Giants own the No. 5 and 7 overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Others who have reportedly interviewed for the position: Bills assistant GM Joe Schoen, Cardinals VP of pro scouting Adrian Wilson, Cardinals VP of player personnel Quentin Harris, Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles, Titans VP of player personnel Ryan Cowden, Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort and Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz.

The Giants are aiming to make a decision on a new GM and coach well before the draft in April.
