Eagles May Be Losing Advantage In Carson Wentz Trade Talks

It seems the Philadelphia Eagles are open to trading quarterback Carson Wentz, and it seems Wentz wants to be traded. So what's the problem?

Well, it does take time to find a dance partner in these situations, but that may not be the only reason Wentz has yet to be moved. Another reason is because not enough teams feel confident taking on a QB who is coming off a shaky season -- especially teams whose entire future would ride on his arm.

Right now, the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears are the two teams most frequently mentioned in the Wentz Sweepstakes. But trades involving the Eagles and either of those two teams would be tricky, explains Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

"Really, why would the Bears want Wentz? More importantly, why would Wentz want the Bears? If Wentz fails in Chicago, he’ll hear it just as quickly and just as loudly as he’s heard it in Philly," Florio wrote. "And if Wentz fails in Chicago, everyone is getting fired."

That leaves the Colts, who seem to want Wentz, but not at the current asking price. Either way, the longer this goes on and the longer Wentz remains with the Eagles, the less the Eagles are likely to get in return.

“I made calls to everyone involved in this one and was told this morning that nothing is imminent," NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo said on Tuesday. "The Eagles are basically waiting for an offer that they think is worthwhile to trade away Carson Wentz.”

But no team looking to trade for Wentz believes that he would immediately become the starter, no questions asked. Wentz would have to compete for the starting job. And no one wants to mortgage the farm for a player like that, so the Eagles should just make a move while they can.
