Eagles HC Nick Sirianni Won’t Let Minshew’s Stellar Start Lead To QB Controversy

Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni seems like he's afraid of catching something. No, he's not worried about flu season or any virus that rhymes with M-M-M-My Sharona. He's concerned he might come down with Minshew Mania, and there's currently no cure.

That should be music to the ears of injured Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who's keeping his job, despite Gardner Minshew's spectacular Sunday.

"When he’s healthy and he’s back, he’ll be our starter,” Sirianni said of Hurts following Philly's 33-18 win over the Jets.

In his first start for the Eagles, Minshew carved up the New York defense, completing his first 11 passes and finishing the game 20 of 25 for 242 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers. Even more impressive was the post-game exchange he had with his dad, where two generations of Minshew's stood toe to toe and exuded all the energy of a Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior Mega Powers coupling.

Sirianni must've seen video of the father-son Minshew moment because he clearly doesn't want that smoke. Who could handle that kind of energy from the Jock Strap King?

“I thought he played a really good game. Our message to Gardner was be yourself and protect that football," Sirianni said post game, via Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic. "If you be yourself, it’s going to be enough. Really happy for Gardner.”

But make no mistake, Sirianni's rolling with Hurts, resisting the urge to ride the mustached Minshew.

"I think he’s played really good football," Sirianni said of Hurts. "There’s been times that he’s been one of the best in the league with the way he’s moved around, made plays. We look at that quarterback rating and what he’s had there, and so he’s played really good football when he’s in."

A word of advice to first-year head coach Nick Sirianni: run, hide, quarantine, wear a mask, whatever. Sooner or later everyone comes down with a case of Minshew Mania. It's unavoidable. It's best to just let it run its course.
