Eagles Bringing In Shane Steichen To Run Offense

The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Shane Streichen as their own OC to work under new head coach Nick Sirianni, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Siriani and Streichen previously worked together with the Chargers. Streichen, of course, was part of the fallout in LA, which included former head coach Anthony Lynn.

Both the Eagles and Chargers are coming off lousy seasons, and the Eagles' quarterback picture remains murky. But there has been no doubt about Chargers QB Justin Herbert, who put together an excellent rookie year, despite the team's overall struggles.

Rapoport wrote that Streichen was "key" in the development of Herbert, which may or may not be true. Herbert probably would have been that good under just about any offensive coordinator.

But Herbert's success, and Streichen's familiarity with the head coach, probably didn't hurt Streichen's chances. The Eagles need a fresh start, and they have some big decisions to make ahead of them. So it's good that Sirianni is filling the staff quickly.
