Drew Brees Says He's Not Coming Back Out Of Retirement

Football fans are used to former quarterbacks coming in and out of retirement. Packers quarterback Brett Favre retired and then came out of retirement to try for a Super Bowl one more time.

However, that won't be the case with future Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees, who wrapped up a 20-year career in a NFC Divisional playoff loss to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last January.

Brees has reiterated that he will not return to the NFL and that he is ready to move on to a second career as a broadcaster.

In an interview with Mike Tirico on Peter King's Football Morning in America, the former Saints QB said that his arm isn't ready for a 21st season and that his decision to hang up the cleats was a good one.

“I better get my butt going, if that’s the case,” Brees told Tirico.

“There is a saying that if you don’t use it, you lose it. That’s the truth, my arm is killing me because I haven’t been training to throw. I actually feel worse now than at any other point in my career. I may have one throw, one series, one drive.”

Brees will be seen this fall as an NFL broadcaster on NBC. The 42-year-old has never broadcast before, but NBC is ready to give him a chance behind the microphone.

“I have been preparing for the next chapter, I’m excited about it," Brees said.

"There is a feeling of gratitude and appreciation for all that the game gave me. I still have a chance (at NBC) to be connected with the game and stay involved, but I am excited to be able to pursue some other passions that I haven’t been able to up to this point.”
