Dallas Cowboys Pony Up The Points, 51-26, To Close Out Season With Win Against Philadelphia Eagles
Dallas ended the season on a high — specifically in points scored and touchdowns tossed by quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys blew out NFC East-rival Philadelphia Eagles, on Saturday night, 51-26.
Philly played without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, resting the franchise QB ahead of the team's postseason appearance. Backup QB Gardner Minshew completed 19-of-33 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
In place of Michael Gallup, the third piece of the Cowboys' receiving attack, was Cedrick Wilson — ending the night as Dallas' standout receiver. He caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns.
Before his early exit in the third, Dak completed 21-of-27 passing for 295 yards and five touchdowns (a career-high).
A bulk of the Cowboys' attack came in the first half. Philly got the first score of the evening — a 3-yard pass to Tyree Jackson — but the Cowboys offense retaliated
Dak found Wilson for Dallas' first touchdown to tie the score (7-7), and later found the receiver for 24 yards in the second quarter to go up (17-10).
A 7-yard rushing touchdown by Kenneth Gainwell tied things up before Dallas scored 13 unanswered points before the half. 30-17.
Once they returned on the field, Dallas resumed their onslaught with 21 answered, going up 51-20 with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Former Eagles running back Corey Clement contributed to Dallas' 171 total rushing yards, adding an 8-yard receiving touchdown to kickstart the fourth. Ezekiel Elliott was the night's lead rusher with 18 carries for 87 yards.
Philadelphia's Quez Watkins found a garbage-time score with a 36-yarder from Minshew, then failing to convert the two-point attempt.
Eagles rookie DeVonta Smith netted the title for most receiving yards by an Eagles rookie wide receiver (916), surpassing DeSean Jackson's record (912). He finished his first-year campaign with 64 receptions and five receiving touchdowns.
Prescott broke another record on Saturday: tossing his 37th touchdown, the most ever in a season by a Cowboys quarterback. Tony Romo previously set the record in 2007.
Dallas finishes the season atop the NFC East (12-5) and with a renewed outlook for the franchise following head coach Mike McCarthy's lusterless rookie year.
Philadelphia finishes the year 9-8 and expects the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round. Philly went 0-7 against winning teams this season.
